A visitor to the garden

We had a visitor this morning. Usually we get Monkjack deer, but this one was bigger, perhaps a fallow deer. She (I'm assuming a she) hopped over into the upper part of our garden, then hopped over our keep-the-dogs-away-from-the-decking fence, and wandered about for a few minutes, venturing quite close to the house. The boys were safely restrained in the house, but they were going mental. After a few minutes of wondering how she might defeat my terrier-proof garden, she hopped back over to the top part of the garden and escaped to the neighbours. Only when she was safely away did I "release the hounds" and let them go and explore the exciting new smells.

An Autumn Visitor

Olga had a visitor while I was in Houston, well at least next-door's back garden had a visitor - the first Monkjack deer for sometime. He or she looks very healthy considering it lives in a fairly built-up area. While I was in Houston hunting was a much-discussed topic amongst the menfolk, as deer hunting season starts next month. I tried to find out how they woulsd react to this situation, but I suspect I already know the answer, although they'd have to wait until the deer strayed onto their property before shooting it. Two of the guys I spoke with (both in their 50s) hunt with bow and arrows as well as rifles! Texans, eh!
Anyway, full marks to Olga for shooting this with nothing more harmful than a Canon 10D with a 90mm lens at 1/90th second exposure.

Bambi in High Wycombe

Olga managed to video our local monkjack deer this afternoon. It was almost in our garden, but what you see is the deer running off when Chris lumbers into the back garden to try and sneak up and take a photo. He'll be back, I'm sure.
