London 2012 Olympic visits

On Tuesday we went to Wembley to see the GB Women's football team beat Brazil 1-0. Lara did get bored fairly quickly once the game started, but we had the EeePad with us, so I just plugged her into Toy Story 2. Danny got more grumpy, he'd not had his proper nap at tea time because of the travelling to Wembley, and we weren't allowed to have a pram with us, so he was in the BabyBjorn, which isn't great for sleeping, if we're just sitting down. Then the crowd's cheers woke him up, and so in the end we decided to call it a day 60 minutes into the game, and beat the rush to get the train home. The atmosphere was great at the game, with more than 70,000 people there, although there were those "empty seats" in areas where members of the "Olympic Family" probably should have been sitting.

On Wednesday morning we went to Earls Court for the women's volleyball, where we saw Japan beat the Dominican Republic, and then Russia easily beat Algeria. Lara could engage a little more with the volleyball (or balletball as she seemed to want to call it), but the EeePad was deployed again, although she also spent sometime taking photographs, either of herself or the volleyball. Getting to the venue on the train and tube, and the security checks to get inside were all very well organised and smooth; it's clear to see that all the preparations that have been made have been worth it, and I think has proved all the doommongers utterly wrong.

The Move - Part 1: And so it starts...

OK, so today is the first proper day of packing for the move to Bury. We've been trying to pack for 12 months, and plenty of stuff has gone to our storage units in High Wycombe, but if you visited the house now, you wouldn't notice that! Today's list includes packing up the office - Olga and I have taken all of next week off work - and Lara wants to help me dismantle her bed.  I'm picking up a big transit van on Monday morning, and I'll load the big stuff into that and drive up to Mum's house on Monday afternoon or evening - thanks Mum for letting us store stuff in your garage until we move it again to "The Pub" as we're going to call the new house.
It'll be hard to concentrate on packing with the Olympics being on at the moment, we picked a good week to have off work! I just watched Oscar Pistorious come second in his 400m heat, well done to him.
