A weekend in Cairo

I'm off to Cairo on Friday afternoon, coming back on Tuesday (in time for ante-natal class, of course), but this is work, not play, I'm doing a Tigress upgrade and Egyptians work on Saturdays and Sundays (they're not workaholics, they have Thursday & Friday off).
It should be nice though, they normally put me in the Sheraton on the Nile, and you can see the pyramids from the balcony if the room is on the right side of the hotel, although you do have to squint a little.

What a difference a day makes..

This top photo is the study, with the floor all laid, I just need to put the skirting boards back on. It took two and a half days, two thumbs and a finger to get to this stage.

However, these photos are of the spare bedroom, which will become the nursery, and which I managed to get this far just on Monday, it's amzing what you can do when things actually go to plan!

I just need to finish the last two rows (the most tricky ones) tomorrow morning, then maybe I'll do the porch while I'm in a laminte-positive mood.
The skirting can wait until Olga & Lucy have painted them over the weekend, while I'm in Cairo.

Junior update

Olga had a check-up with the midwife on Wednesday; everything is fine, the baby is in the right position, and is now a little above average length for age, but I guess that's Dad's height genes kicking in.
We went to our second ante-natal class on Tuesday, they are proving useful substitutes for me reading a lot of books. We've decided Olga will read the books, and tell me the bits that are pertinent to me, and I'll learn from the class. As we get nearer the big day, I'll do some more reading, but we don't think there's any need for both of us to know the same stuff. I'm busy enough with the "nest-building", and on that note, it's back to the laminate-bloody-flooring now, excuse my French.

York was fun

York was very nice last weekend, the weather was lovely, but it surprised me how busy the city is. We did the touristy things on Saturday afternoon, then met the guys & girls later on. Sunday was a long day, it was a four and a half hour drive home, and Anton, Becca and Simon had already arrived at Deeds Grove by the time we got home, but the fires got lit and I'm sure no-one will forget the quality of the fireworks ;-) Well, you get what you pay for, but as Lucy said "It was better than nothing" Her English is coming on a treat!

Where's the week gone?!

Well, excuse any typos this morning, I've not got the use of either thumb, after hitting one with the hammer and slicing another on a nail yesterday. If anybody has ever had a hassle-free experience fitting laminate flooring, please leave me a comment with some advice!
I know what to do, and the instructions on the pack are fairly clear, and I even watched a DVD from B&Q about it (actually more useful than it sounds!) but there are no instructions to tell you what to do when the bottom of the wall you need to fix the first row of planks to is patchy and crumbly. I'll not go on about it here, but suffice it to say it strained even my temper.
Any way, today is another day :-)
